It was a dull morning after a whole night disturbed sleep at my DRH/AJJ ,i was not fresh enough to carry out my routine ward rounds.I was a bit disinterested and also lazy.Usually i will start my ward rounds at 7 a.m in the morning, but i was very reluctant today and even by 7:15 a.m i didnt satrt my ward rounds.
I just came out of the hospital wards and stood at the entrance to get some fresh air, after getting locked inside the gloomy air conditioner duty doctor room for the whole night. It was cool outside, the sun has risen well above the horizon but still misty and breezy ,a typical february morning at Arakkonam.
There i heard chirpping of a bird on the tree near the hospital compound wall, suddenly am excited my laziness vanished and adventurer in me bloomed , i turned my face to the tree and exclaimed wowwwwwww!!!!!!
It was a new bird i ever seen, dark black plumage head and breast, darker beak, brownish dorsal plumage, with characterstic black stripes at the end of primary wings which formed a 'v' shape when both wings coinsides when the bird is at rest and brownish tail.
It was my first confidant observation of a bird, because i know with all these observatory findings i could very well go back home and check the name of the bird from newly owned birds book "BIRDS OF THE INDIAN SUBCONTINENT".With all enthusiasm i tried getting near the bird to have a closer look at the ventral parts and color of the plumage, but he was very shy to let me near him and flu away from my sight for ever, but he made my morning fruitful and rejuvenating, i went back to my ward to do my rounds with hope of today am gonna discover the name of a new bird i spotted, did my rounds efficiently and all the one and half hours train journey back home, his sight kept flashing in my brain .
After having my breakfast, searched my birds manual, yes i found his name , yes he is an ADULT MALE MALABAR TROGON, not a resident of arakkonam, but he just has given me a glimpse of him today when he was flying through his migration some where between western ghats to north-eastern parts of tamilnadu i suppose, he has rested a while in the tree maybe for having his breakfast or searching his mate or just to make me feel good!!!!anyways he made me feel good today, thank him and thank Mittal Gala my mate at MADRAS CROCODILE BANK , who guided me to get my copy of the birds manual.
Yes, i realised this is the beginning of my endless pursuit and i owe a lot to my mom and dad, they never tell no for any of my wishes, though at times they very well know their son is not gonna suceed but always back me giving me confidance and courage and always give a hand of redefinition.
